We’re not sure what’s more impressive – that at just six-years-old, Ellington already speaks English, Mandarin and Spanish or that he has a sneaker collection which includes Nikes hand-painted by Julian Gaines, custom navy blue Timberlands courtesy of Pharrell Williams, and every Air Jordan under the map. But that’s what happens when your parents are Team Epiphany Managing Partner Coltrane Curtis and Lisa Chu.
“We need new shoes for him every six to nine months,” Coltrane says of Ellington’s ever-growing collection, with old shoes getting donated to make room for the latest releases. And though the family regularly shops stores like Trico Field and brands like même and Haus of JR for Ellington, these days he’s all about basketball jerseys, especially those of his favourite player Kyrie Irving. For Coltrane, a majority of his wardrobe comes from friend Chris Gibb’s store Union, but it’s his sneaker collection that takes the cake. With pony hair Air Force 1s and a selection from the Virgil Abloh x Nike “The Ten” collection in Coltrane’s stash, it’s easy to see where Ellington gets his style from.
