Often when you think of head chefs in bustling New York City restaurants, you think the likes of Gordon Ramsey or our recent fallen culinary hero Anthony Bourdain, sweating, shouting and shepherding their team and food with a meticulousness that is found only in the world of fine dining. That is until you come across this young star.
Flynn McGarry is the founder and head chef of Gem, a restaurant in Manhattan’s unadulterated slick Lower East Side. His $155 tasting menu is served in the style of a dinner party, hopefully making you feel like you’re not at a restaurant at all. The young chef has been working full time in professional kitchens since he was 12.
