Cartier Paris-Dakar Cheich Watch

After winning the Paris-Dakar rally in 1985, Belgian motorcyclist Gaston Rahier was presented with a Cartier Cheich watch. The timepiece was made exclusively for the race by Cartier’s Alain Dominique Perrin and the Paris-Dakar founder Thierry Sabine and features a case that references the cloth wraps commonly worn in the desert for protection from the sun and sand. It’s coveted not only for its unique design but also for its rarity. The watch is one of only four examples, one thought to be lost, two in Cartier’s permanent collection, and this one from Rahier’s personal estate. The Cheich will go up for auction by Sotheby’s in Paris as part of its Fine Watches auction, with bidding opening on September 16, 2022. Estimation £200,000.00, Available
