When it was time to land rovers on Mars and Titan, NASA trusted two of the most advanced materials in the world. Its interior is made from a new type of aerogel crafted by the same people producing a heat shield for the next Mars Rover. It’s laser-drilled with hundreds of micropores, providing the jacket with a flexible, durable, and waterproof membrane while keeping it lightweight at only 700 grams. The outer shell is cut from a parachute used to land the first probe on Titan and the last Rover on Mars. The transparent finish of the fabric provides a peak inside at the laser-drilled aerogel.
